Sets of new generation 4-way rotary mixing valves ARV and electric actuator ARM 343

are used in various types of heating and other installations in which the most popular 3-point controllers are used. Typically, they are used in heating installations where mixing is required with simultaneous raising of the return temperature to the boiler.

The kits consist of the new brass 4-way rotary mixing valve ARV and the most popular new generation electric actuator ARM 343 (230 V AC, 3-point, rotation time 120 s, torque 6 Nm). The valve and actuator are mounted together using the innovative ProClick system.

DN: 25

Kvs: 10 m³/h

connection: Rp1''

body material: brass

supply voltage: 230 V AC

rotation time of 90°: 120 seconds

torque: 6 Nm

type of control: 3-point

The biggest advantage of the new generation of ARV ProClick mixing valves and ARM ProClick electric actuators is the innovative ProClick system !

Its advantage is that the installation of the new ARM ProClick actuator on the new ARV ProClick valve is done in two simple steps:

Removing the knob from the ARV ProClick valve.

Applying the ARM ProClick actuator to it.

This entire process is done without any additional components or the use of tools.

However, this is not the only advantage of the new ARV ProClick valves and ARM ProClick actuators.

The following presentation illustrates the most important advantages of the new products.

Most common question:

Is the ARM/ ARM ProClick electric actuator equipped with limit switches?

  • Yes. Every ARM/ ARM ProClick electric actuator is equipped with limit switches. Their function is to disconnect the voltage at the extreme positions of the actuator - the mixing valve fully open and fully closed.

Can ARM/ ARM ProClick actuators from AFRISO operate with a rotation angle greater than 90°?

  • ARM/ ARM ProClick actuators from AFRISO allow the actuator to operate only at a rotation angle of 90° due to the installed limit switches.

What is the difference between 2-point, 3-point and proportional control of an actuator? Which control should you choose?

The 2-point control has two operating points: turn the valve to the left and turn the valve to the right. There are 3 wires from the actuator (neutral and two current wires). Voltage is applied to one of the current wires (black) all the time. At this point, the actuator rotates to one of the sides, depending on the jumper setting. If voltage is also applied to the other wire (brown), the valve will begin to rotate in the other direction. It is not possible to stop the operation of the actuator in the intermediate state. The actuator operates until it reaches one of the limit states and is turned off by the limit switch. It is possible to supply 230 V AC or 24 V AC.

  • Such actuators are mounted on valves that operate in a switching function, such as between two heat consumers.

The 3-point control has 3 operating points: turn the valve to the left, turn the valve to the right, stop the valve. From this actuator, as with the 2-point, there are also three wires (neutral and two current wires), while there is a possibility that voltage is not applied to any of the current wires, which means that the actuator can be stopped at an intermediate point. It is possible to supply 230 V AC or 24 V AC.

  • Such actuators are used in mixing systems, such as hot water from the boiler and cold water returning from the system.
  • Proportional control also smoothly controls the rotation of the valve. Due to its design, this control is very accurate. The proportional actuator must work with the proportional controller and must be supplied with 24 V AC or 24 V DC. There are 4 wires from the actuator - two for power supply ("+" and "-") and two for the corresponding connection to the controller ("Y" and "U"). The controller gives short pulses to these wires, and then after each pulse it examines how this action affected the installation. If a change is necessary it gives another pulse. If, on the other hand, a change is not necessary, the controller does not apply voltage to either wire. These pulses can be in one of the selectable ranges: 0...10 V, 2...10 V, 0...20 mA, 4...20 mA.
  • Such actuators are used in mixing systems, where it is very important to stabilize the temperature of the mixed medium, such as in refrigeration, air conditioning, less often in heating systems.

Do AFRISO ARM actuators fit on rotary mixing valves of other manufacturers?

ARM actuators come with valve mounting hardware as part of standard delivery:

  • ARV ProClick
  • ARV AFRISO, ESBE (type MG, G, F), Seltron, Somatherm, Hora, WIP, PAW, LK, BARBERI, BRV, IMIT, IVAR, HOVAL, OLYMP

What is the operation of the actuator in automatic mode and manual mode?

  • The actuator in automatic mode sets the valve in the position appropriately set by the controller-controller connected to it. The actuator is not an autonomous device that regulates the operation of the valve by itself. The actuator is an executive element, receiving signals from the regulator - the corresponding controller. An example of an actuator control device can be a more sophisticated boiler controller, air handling unit automation, or, for example, a weather controller AFRISO AWC.
  • In manual operation mode, the actuator will not turn the valve under the influence of signals received from the regulator (controller). In this mode, its actuator is decoupled. The decoupling of the actuator from the mixing element of the valve makes it possible to turn the valve manually by turning the knob on the actuator. This mode is used in emergency situations or to diagnose the operation of the valve itself.

What is the difference between a 3-way and 4-way mixing valve?

  • 3-way valves work on the principle of mixing a high-temperature water stream with lower-temperature water. This achieves the required temperature in the system.
  • 4-way valves have the function of double mixing of high-temperature streams with lower-temperature water. As a result, we get 2 streams of mixed water: supplying the heating system and returning to the boiler. This results in an increase in the temperature of the water returning to the boiler, which increases its service life.

Where, using any 3- or 4-way valve in the mixing function, should a circulating pump be installed?

  • In any installation using 3-way (e.g., ARV, ATM, ATV) or 4-way (ARV) valves in the mixing function, the circulating pump should be mounted behind the valve output so that it can draw mixed water from the valve. Any other location of the pump may result in incorrect operation of the valve!

Can ARV valves be used in chilled water systems?

  • YES.
  • aRV 3-way mixing valves are designed for water heating, cooling and hot water systems. ARV valves can work with medium of pressure up to 10 bar, temperature of 5 ÷ 110°C, which is water or a mixture of water and glycol with glycol concentration not exceeding 50%.
